Willy Santos

Willy Santos is a pioneering figure in skateboarding, recognized as one of the first Filipino-American professionals. Born on October 1, 1975, in Subic Bay, Philippines, Santos began skateboarding at 12 after moving to California. By 16, Tony Hawk handpicked him for the Birdhouse Skateboards team, launching his influential career.

Throughout the ’90s, Santos achieved numerous milestones that have left a lasting legacy in the skateboarding world. He earned accolades such as the TransWorld Skateboarding’ Readers Choice’ Award, a Bronze Medal in Street at the first X-Games, and first-place wins at the Munster World Cup Championship and Vans Triple Crown Street Contest. He also became one of the few skateboarders with signature shoes from Duffs and Vans, a testament to his influence and impaact on the sport.

He was inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions in 2009 and featured in the HBO documentary “East of Main Street” in 2011.

As of 2024, Santos is still active as a pro skateboarder, co-founder of Couch Curbs and Willy’s Workshop, and Olympic Skateboarding Coach. He also creates content on YouTube and continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of skateboarders worldwide.

Santos takes pride in his Filipino roots and aims to inspire others to embrace their Filipino heritage.
